Student fees and funding your studies
Unisa’s study fees are generally lower than other higher education institutions, but studying is still a significant investment either way. The cost depends on the qualification, obviously, as well as the number of modules you choose.
The average student registers for between 4 and 6 modules per year at a cost of between *R1 743,00 and *R6 722,00 per module (*these amounts are subject to change). The module costs do not include your prescribed books. Books are an additional cost that you must factor into your calculations for your full costs of study.
Application for admission fee
The application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa or do not qualify for admission to Unisa.
Please note that Unisa does not accept cash or cheques at any of its offices.
Bursaries and loans for Unisa students
Unisa’s Division: Student Funding (DSF) administers donor funding in the form of bursaries and loans to Unisa students. The criteria for awarding these bursaries and loans are determined by the donors of the funding. All application forms are available at www.unisa.ac.za/studentfunding

Accessing UNISA Student Portal – My UNISA
The UNISA student portal provides an engaging student experience with a single point of access to all applications, information, and content necessary for university studies.
How to access/login to the UNISA student portal
- Open your internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.
- Go to: https://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/myunisa/default/
- Then log in with your username and password
- Once logged in, you will be able to perform any of the academic activities.
How to Recover Your UNISA Student Portal Forgotten Password?
- To reset your password, submit your username or your email address. If you are found in the database, an email will be sent to your email address, with instructions on how to get access again.

UNISA Online application
To complete your UNISA online application please follow the following application procedures:
- Visit the UNISA website and click on the Admission > Apply for Admission
- Online Registration; Fill in your Information To register.
- Upload supporting documents; Everyone applying for a new qualification must submit the required documents (all first-time applicants and UNISA students starting a new qualification).
- UNISA Application fee payments (Note some universities do not charge application fees)
- Submit your completed application: To complete the application; the applicant is required to complete all steps related to the UNISA application process.
When to apply at UNISA – UNISA application dates
Applications open between May and close around August every year. Please try to submit your application as soon as possible. Because some Universities do not consider late applications.

When the UNISA updates your application, you will receive email communication. Please Keep on monitoring your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that were provided after your application. Keep in mind that some universities do not disclose your application status telephonically.
To check the progress of your application through the UNISA Online application portal follow these easy steps:
- Go to:https://myadmin.unisa.ac.za/unisa-studentstatus/default.do
- Fill in the username and password then submit
- Upon successful login to the application portal, you will be able to see your application status (i.e. Pending Review, Requires Action, Complete, Undergraduate Admission Decisions, Pending, Admitted, Cleared Provisional, Admission, Ineligible, Quota Filled Not Selected or Cancelled).

How to accept UNISA admission offer
After a successful application, you will receive an admission offer from the University of South Africa, to accept your UNISA offer of admission, log in to the UNISA Online application tool and select the “Confirm” tab. You must respond by the expiry date noted in your offer
- You must accept or decline Unisa’s offer for a specific academic year within the prescribed timeframe (10 days is allowed, unless otherwise indicated in the offer e-mail). To accept or decline Unisa’s offer, go to www.unisa.ac.za/acceptoffer
* Unisa reserves the right to withdraw an offer if you don’t accept within the time period indicated in the offer e-mail.
