The University of Pretoria (UP) is one of Africa’s top universities and the largest contact university in South Africa. University Faculties
The University comprises numerous faculties, schools, colleges and departments.
UP are one of the largest research universities in South Africa, with nine highly regarded faculties that span the knowledge spectrum from classic academic fields to rapidly evolving new fields of study. We are home to Africa’s best business school, the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg, Africa’s best Faculty of Law, and South Africa’s only Faculty of Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort, near Pretoria.
UP faculties comprise 120 academic departments that provide a combined course offering of over 1 200 programmes across our faculties of Humanities; Education; Economic and Management Sciences; Natural and Agricultural Sciences; Health Sciences; Veterinary Science; Theology and Religion; Law; and Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology. Our programmes are locally and globally relevant.
UP endeavours to create an environment that enables all students to maximise their own intellectual potential in their chosen field of study by providing a solid teaching and learning foundation that will lead our graduates to greater success in their careers or light the spark of curiosity and discovery through further postgraduate specialisation and research.

Accessing UP Student Portal
The UP student portal provides an engaging student experience with a single point of access to all applications, information, and content necessary for university studies.
How to access/login to the UP student portal
- Open your internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.
- Go to: My UP Login (UP Portal).
- Then log in with your username and password
- Once logged in, you will be able to perform any of the academic activities.
How to Recover Your UP Student Portal Forgotten Password?
- To reset your password, submit your username or your email address. If you are found in the database, an email will be sent to your email address, with instructions on how to get access again.

UP Online application
To complete your UP online application please follow the following application procedures:
- Visit the UP website and click on the Admission > Apply for Admission
- Online Registration; Fill in your Information To register.
- Upload supporting documents; Everyone applying for a new qualification must submit the required documents (all first-time applicants and UP students starting a new qualification).
- UP Application fee payments (Note some universities do not charge application fees)
- Submit your completed application: To complete the application; the applicant is required to complete all steps related to the UP application process.
When to apply at UP – UP application dates
Applications open between May and close around August every year. Please try to submit your application as soon as possible. Because some Universities do not consider late applications.

When the UP updates your application, you will receive email communication. Please Keep on monitoring your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that were provided after your application. Keep in mind that some universities do not disclose your application status telephonically.
To check the progress of your application through the UP Online application portal follow these easy steps:
Please visit your Student Centre on the UP Portal to view your UPOnline application status.
You have to access the University of Pretoria’s website at www.up.ac.za to gain access to the Student Portal (Student Centre) where your profile can be viewed.
You will first have to set up your password in My UP Login (UP Portal).

- Once you have set your password, you can access the My UP Login (UP Portal), then select Student Centre and your will be able to view your status.

- Upon successful login to the application portal, you will be able to see your application status (i.e. Pending Review, Requires Action, Complete, Undergraduate Admission Decisions, Pending, Admitted, Cleared Provisional, Admission, Ineligible, Quota Filled Not Selected or Cancelled).
Admission offers
How to accept UP admission offer
After a successful application, you will receive an admission offer from the University of Pretoria, to accept your UP offer of admission, log in to the UP Online application tool and select the “Confirm” tab. You must respond by the expiry date noted in your offer

If you have been admitted conditionally or unconditionally, please visit the My UP Login (UP Portal) ‘Student Centre’ to accept or decline the offer.

- you did not receive a confirmation letter.
- your status indicates ‘awaiting results’ despite the fact that you have already submitted your result, as requested on your application form.
- you want to change your study programme.
Important:
- Always state your student number in your email and give an outline of your enquiry.
- Check the correctness of your personal information as well as the status of your application on the My UP Login (UP Portal) regularly.
