Vibrant, multicultural and dynamic, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) shares the pace and energy of cosmopolitan Johannesburg, the city whose name it carries. Proudly South African, the university is alive down to its African roots, and well-prepared for its role in actualising the potential that higher education holds for the continent’s development. UJ has transformed into a diverse, inclusive, transformational and collegial institution, with a student population of over 50 000, of which more than 3000 are international students from 80 countries. This makes UJ one of the largest contact universities in South Africa (SA) from the 26 public universities that make up the higher education system.

The vision of the UJ is to be “an international University of choice, anchored in Africa, dynamically shaping the future”. The mission can be described as follows: “inspiring its community to transform and serve humanity through innovation and the collaborative pursuit of knowledge”. These are underpinned by four values, namely: imagination, conversation, regeneration and ethical foundation. The six strategic objectives provide a focused means for realising the Vision, Mission and Values of the University as set out above. They further represent a re-working of the original UJ Strategic Thrusts 2020 in the context of a wider positioning of the University as “The Pan-African” Centre for Critical Intellectual Inquiry, with the primary goal of achieving global excellence and stature.

Certified and individually scanned documents if completed Grade 12 (see process below).
Document upload requirements when applying online (not applicable to applicants currently in grade 12 or internal transfer/Senior applicants):
All documents must be certified
Eensure that the scanned file is a maximum of 512KB
All documents are scanned in any of the following types – tiff, pdf, jpg or gif
Each document must be scanned and uploaded as separate attachments

Open your internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.
Go to: https://ulink.uj.ac.za/Default
Then log in with your username and password
Once logged in, you will be able to perform any of the academic activities.

How to Recover Your UJ Student Portal Forgotten Password?

To reset your password, submit your username or your email address. If you are found in the database, an email will be sent to your email address, with instructions on how to get access again.

UJ Online application

To complete your UJ online application please follow the following application procedures:

Visit the UJ website and click on the Admission > Apply for Admission
Online Registration; Fill in your Information To register.
Upload supporting documents; Everyone applying for a new qualification must submit the required documents (all first-time applicants and UJ students starting a new qualification).
UJ Application fee payments (Note some universities do not charge application fees)
Submit your completed application: To complete the application; the applicant is required to complete all steps related to the UJ application process.

When to apply at UJ – UJ application dates

Applications open between May and close around August every year. Please try to submit your application as soon as possible. Because some Universities do not consider late applications.

When the UJ updates your application, you will receive email communication. Please Keep on monitoring your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the log-in credentials that were provided after your application. Keep in mind that some universities do not disclose your application status telephonically.

To check the progress of your application through the UJ Online application portal follow these easy steps:

Go to: https://student.uj.ac.za/status.aspx
Fill in the username and password then submit
Upon successful login to the application portal, you will be able to see your application status (i.e. Pending Review, Requires Action, Complete, Undergraduate Admission Decisions, Pending, Admitted, Cleared Provisional, Admission, Ineligible, Quota Filled Not Selected or Cancelled).

How to accept UJ admission offer

After a successful application, you will receive an admission offer from the University of Johannesburg, to accept your UJ offer of admission, log in to the UJ Online application tool and select the “Confirm” tab. You must respond by the expiry date noted in your offer.

To accept the UJ offer visit Application portal >> then navigate to “OFFER” and follow the instructions provided in the admission offer by the university.
